July, A Month of Business, Marketing & Ventriloquism?
By Steve Hurst | August 1, 2008
I guess you’ve noticed that it’s been almost a month since I posted to this blog. It’s been one busy, crazy month. Which begs the question….”where’s the recession?” I’ve been busier than ever. More about this later in the blog.
But for now, what’s been happening this month? As Paul Harvey would say, “This is partly personal”, but one of the big things that happened had to do with one of my hobbies. This particular hobby happens to be ventriloquism.
I am a ventriloquist and I’m the webmaster for the website Ventriloquist Central (a labor of love….click here to see the website).
The website is full of information for and about the art of ventriloquism and about ventriloquists themselves. This month was the big Vent Haven ventriloquist ConVENTion in Fort Mitchell, KY. Every year ventriloquists flock to this event.
Unfortunately, due to my business being so good (remember…busier than I’ve ever been)…I was unable to attend. However, I was still very involved with the convention. We had people doing interviews at the convention, sending in updates and pictures so that the others who could not attend would still know what was going on and be informed.
What an undertaking this was. Between taking care of my own clients, handling projects that I was working on and coordinating what was happening at the convention, at times, I didn’t know which end was up.
Last years, “America’s Got Talent” winner, ventriloquist Terry Fator was at the convention and we were able to get a one on one interview with him. He is a great guy (to see the interview, click here).
I could actually go on and on about the details of this month, but I don’t want to bore you. So, as you can hopefully see, July has been a busy month. And back to the question, “where’s the recession?” Now I know some out there are experiencing some difficult times, but I know that my clients and I are not.
Why? First off, I’m not buying into the recession (neither are my clients). Second, through good marketing, you can create a business that’s recession proof…if you do it right.
How does one recession proof their business? More on that in future blogs.
To Your Success,
Steve
